17.1     The Lead Member for Education and Inclusion, Special Educational Needs and Disability considered a report by the Director of Children’s Services seeking approval to consult on the admission arrangements for the 2019/20 school year. At the meeting the Lead Member was provided with an update regarding a decision made by the Office of the Schools Adjudicator regarding the proposed admission number for Ditchling St Margaret’s Church of England Primary School. As a result the consultation document will include a revised proposed admissions number of 24.

 

17.2     RESOLVED to approve consultation on the following proposed admission arrangements for the 2019/20 school year:

 

  1. To make a change to the community area for Hankham and Stone Cross primary schools so that the current discrete areas are merged to form one shared community area;
  2. To include the community area formerly served by Rodmell CE Primary School in the community area for Iford & Kingston CE Primary School following the agreed closure of Rodmell CE Primary School;
  3. To include the villages of Ditchling and Streat in Chailey Secondary School’s community area to create a shared area with Priory School;
  4. The proposed admissions numbers; and
  5. The proposed co-ordinated admissions schemes.

 

Reasons

 

17.3     The County Council is required by law to carry out consultation on admissions arrangements every seven years or sooner if there are any changes to those arrangements relating to schools where the local authority is the admission authority.

18.1     The Lead Member for Education and Inclusion, Special Educational Needs and Disability considered a report by the Director of Children’s Services seeking approval to publish statutory notices in respect of a proposal to expand Willingdon Community School.

 

18.2     The Lead Member RESOLVED to:

 

1) Authorise the publication of a statutory notice in respect of a proposal to expand Willingdon Community School from 1,000 places to 1,200 places with effect from 1 September 2020; and

2) Delegate authority to the Director of Children’s Services to amend the proposals prior to their publication if required.

 

Reasons

 

18.3     The Council has a statutory duty to ensure there is sufficient capacity to meet demand for places and is therefore proposing to expand Willingdon Community School. This will create additional school places to serve recent and planned housing developments in the area the school serves.
