Broadband Review Board (ETE Scrutiny)

Purpose of committee

A Scrutiny Review Board was established at the 16 March 2016 Economy, Transport and Environment (ETE) Scrutiny Committee meeting to examine the provision of Superfast Broadband infrastructure through the Broadband Project in East Sussex.

The Broadband Project is being delivered by East Sussex County Council through two contracts with BT Openreach.

The areas of inquiry for the Review included:

·        Residents’ expectations;

·        Communication about the project;

·        What has been delivered so far under the first contract with BT; and

·        Whether the roll out of the second contract will address residents’ concerns about broadband speeds.

The Review Board’s report was approved by the Economy, Transport and Environment (ETE) Scrutiny Committee on 15 March 2017. A copy of the report, and the action plan drawn up in response to the recommendations of the Review, are on the Council’s web site and can be found by clicking on this link

The recommendations of the Review and action plan were agreed by Cabinet on 6 June 2017, and the County Council at its meeting held on 11 July 2017.

The ETE Scrutiny Committee will receive a report on the progress in implementing the action plan at the meeting to be held on 13 March 2018.
