Belgrave Road, Seaford - zebra crossing and pathway

We the undersigned petition the council to make safer changes to the zebra crossing on Belgrave Road and consider changing the speed limit during school commute times.

This road is very close to Seaford Primary School and used by many children on their way to school. Whilst the zebra crossing was effective when first put in place is has become more and more dangerous over the past 18 months. There is little signage indicating a crossing or a school, however I am sure most drivers already know it's there. That said, roughly 50% of the time a driver has not stopped for pedestrians including many Primary School children waiting to cross. Cars speed up in an attempt to get over the crossing before you reach it and then slam on their brakes when they haven't got there in time. Additional safety measures are needed at the crossing or possibly traffic lights.
There is also great danger on the pavement next to the tennis courts, which is very narrow with a large wall one side. If a pedestrian is coming the other way there is little room to get round them and causes pedestrians to have to step on the kerb or into the road. Again this is very concerning for the children when drivers are going so fast a long that stretch of road. Lower speed limits, barriers or taking down the wall and widening the pavement would make it much safer.
