We the undersigned petition the council to review the spraying of gullies and pavements with weed killer. I/we believe that the drift of this spray can detrimentally affect gardens and particularly from the road gullies run off into the water course and subsequently into the sea. I/ we acknowledge that there may be some areas where it is necessary to remove weeds to improve road visibility for safety. I/we believe that residents can remove weeds on the frontage of their own properties and assist their neighbours if they are not physically able to do so.
Residents planting in front gardens, possibly some edible plants
surely do not want poison applied to their home environment. I/we
feel strongly that we all have a responsibility to assist in
maintaining the marine environment as coastal residents and paying
to add weed killer (run off) into the sea is not desirable. There
is also a financial cost saving to not purchasing weed killer and
time/wage savings deploying staff or contractors to do so.
