Decision details

To approve the disposal of Beacongate and The Gables, Crowborough

Decision Maker: Chief Operating Officer

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: Yes

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

The properties are no longer required for East Sussex County Council (ESCC) operational purposes.

Marketing and disposal of the properties will meet the requirements of the Capital Grant Agreement and provide a capital receipt for NHS projects, whilst minimising any ongoing maintenance and revenue implications connected with the Properties for ESCC.

The decision delegated to the Chief Operating Officer by the Lead Member for Resources and Climate Change (LMRCC) at the 11 October 2022 meeting.

Decision:

Following a marketing period of 6 weeks via a local Estate Agent, the properties are to be sold to the preferred purchasers.

The prices obtained are considered to be the best value that can reasonably be obtained. The properties have been appropriately marketed on the open market and an independent valuer has validated the respective offers.

Alternative options considered:

This was the only option considered to secure best value in accordance with s123 of the Local Government Act 1972.
