NOTICE is hereby given that East Sussex County Council have made an Order under the relevant sections of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, and of all other enabling powers, which will reduce the speed limit along the following lengths of road;

30mph Speed Limit
Burwash Road
from a point 135 metres east of the junction with B2203 Tower Street, eastwards for a distance of 575 metres.

Battle Road
from the junction with Burwash Road south-eastwards for a distance of 155 metres.


40mph Speed Limit
Burwash Road
from a point 710 metres east of the junction with B2203 Tower Street, eastwards to a point 11 metres west of the junction with Street End Lane.

Battle Road
from a point 155 metres south of the junction with Burwash Road south-eastwards for a distance of 75 metres.

A copy of the Order, which will come into effect on 29 April 2024, plan showing the lengths of road and a statement of the County Council’s reasons for proposing the Order, along with a copy of the Order being revoked in part can be viewed in Reception, East Sussex County Council, County Hall, St Anne’s Crescent, Lewes from Monday to Friday between 9am to 4pm and online at;

Any person wishing to question the validity of the Order or any of its provisions on the grounds that it is not within the powers conferred by the Road Traffic Regulation Act of 1984, or on the grounds that any requirement of the Road Traffic Regulation Act or of any instrument made under it has not been complied with in relation to the Order, may within six weeks of 26 April 2024, apply to the High Court for this purpose.
