East Sussex County Council’s Cabinet
approved the introduction of charging for certain non household
waste items across its network of Household Waste Recycling Sites
(HWRS) sites at the meeting held on 26 June 2018.
The charges form part of the proposals of the HWRS Service Review,
and contribute towards the savings targets identified for the Waste
Disposal Service in the Council's Medium Term Financial Plan
(MTFP).
Whilst proposed charges were covered within the Cabinet report, the
decision to set the exact charges was delegated to the Director of
Communities, Economy and Transport, in consultation with the Chief
Finance Officer.
It was agreed to set the charges for a
Chargeable Waste Scheme, to be implemented across East Sussex
County Council’s HWRS network, as follows:
• Soil £4 per bag (or part bag)
• Hardcore £4 per bag (or part bag)
• Plasterboard £4 per bag/sheet (or part
bag/sheet)
• Bonded Asbestos £6 per bag/sheet (or part
bag/sheet)
• Tyres £2 per tyre (or part tyre)
The charges were compared with those set by
neighbouring authorities and a decision was made not to set the
charges at the maximum possible, as this would put East Sussex as
the highest charging authority.
The charges have been set at a level that is estimated will fully
recover disposal and operating costs, and will provide a
contribution towards service and corporate overheads.
