Decision details

To allow East Sussex Highways to carry out carriageway resurfacing, East Sussex County Council have made an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following lengths of road in phases;

The Order commences 24 September 2018 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until the works are completed, whichever is the earlier. However, it is anticipated the works will be undertaken in phases between 24 September 2018 and 10 October 2018 depending upon the weather conditions.

Temporary Road Closures
From 20:00hrs to 06:00hrs each night between 24 September and 10 October 2018

Phase 1- A259 Station Approach- between the Swing Bridge and U5960 Railway Approach.
The alternative route for through traffic will be signed and maintained for the duration of the works via A259 Drove Road – A259 B & Q Roundabout – A259 The Drove and vice versa.

Phase 2- A259 Station Approach - between U5960 Railway Approach and A259 New Road Industrial Area.
The alternative route for through traffic will be signed and maintained for the duration of the works via A259 Drove Road – A259 B & Q Roundabout – A259 The Drove – A259 South Way – A259 Lewes Road – A259 North Way

Phase 3- A259 Drove Road - between A259 New Road Industrial Area and A259 B & Q Roundabout.
The alternative route for through traffic will be signed and maintained for the duration of the works as follows
From A259 B & Q Roundabout via A259 The Drove – A259 Drove Road – A259 South Way – A259 Lewes Road – A259 North Way – A259 The Drove – A259 New Road
From A259 New Road via A259 The Drove – A259 B & Q Roundabout – A259 The Drove – A259 Drove Road – A259 South Way – A259 Lewes Road – A259 North Way

Phase 4 – A259 New Road - from the mini roundabout for a distance of 90 metres northwards.
The alternative route for through traffic will be signed and maintained for the duration of the works via A259 Drove Road – A259 The Drove – A259 Denton Roundabout – B2238 Avis Road

Phase 5 – A259 North Quay - between the Swing Bridge and P5707 North Quay Road.
The alternative route for through traffic will be signed and maintained for the duration of the works via A259 The Drove – A259 B & Q Roundabout – A259 Drove Road – A259 Station Approach and vice versa.

Temporary lights will be in operation to facilitate the road closures and access to the port.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible.
