The Newhaven Port Access Road (NPAR) is
identified as a priority in the County Council Plan as well as
within the Coast to Capital Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP)
Local Growth Deal.
The delivery of the NPAR is integral to the Newhaven Enterprise
Zone announced in the Chancellor’s 2015 Autumn Statement, the
delivery of the Port’s Masterplan and, along with the
investment being made in the flood defences in the town by the
Environment Agency and the two LEP’s - Coast to Capital (C2C
LEP) and South East (SE LEP), will help the viability of commercial
and housing development sites in the Newhaven area.
The NPAR will open up land to enable the delivery of 9,750sqm
employment space in the port, creating over 620 new net additional
jobs in the town. From the economic assessment to support the
business case, the NPAR will derive Gross Value Added (GVA)
benefits of over £340m up to 2030 at present value and will
represent very high value for money from an economic
perspective.
The value of the contract is £18.5m.
It was decided this tender should be awarded
to BAM Nuttall Ltd using GEN3 Framework (option 1) as they were the
only tender to be received which complied with all of the
requirements.
The decision was approved by the Director Of Communities, Economy
and Transport in consultation with the Lead Member, Cllr Ruper
Simmons.
