Decision details

To allow East Sussex Highways to carry out works, East Sussex County Council have made an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following lengths of road;

Temporary Road Closures
Horns Cross / Well House Hill - from the junction with A28 Northiam Road to the junction with U6949 Pixies Lane.

Diversion northbound via A28 Well House Hill, Perryman Cross, Hastings Road, Main Street, Station Road – A268 Whitebread Lane, Peasmarsh Road, Two Hovens, Barnets Hill, Flackley Ash, Main Street, Rye Road, Rye Hill, Fishmarket Road – A259 Fishmarket Road, South Undercliff, Strand Quay, Wish Street roundabout – A268 Wish Street, Ferry Road – B2089 Ferry Road, Udimore Road – A28 Northiam Road.

Diversion southbound via A28 Northiam Road – B2089 Udimore Road, Ferry Road – A268 Station Approach, Cinque Ports Street, Tower Street, Landgate, Rye Hill, Rye Road, Main Street, Flackley Ash, Barnets Hill, Two Hovens, Peasmarsh Road, Whitebread Lane – A28 Station Road, Main Street, Hastings Road, Perryman Cross, Well House Hill (One way) via C92 Pett Level Road - C23 Chick Hill, Pett Road, Friars Hill – A259(T) Winchelsea Road, Rye Road, Old London Road – C92 Fairlight Road, Battery Hill, Pett Level Road and vice versa.

Beckley Road - from the junction with A28 Horns Cross to the junction with U6949 Pixies Lane.

Diversion to access north of the A28 Well House Hill closure via B2165 Beckley Road, The Stream, Clayhill – B2088 Rye Road – A28 Hastings Road, Perryman Cross, Well House Hill and vice versa.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic as set out above.

The Order commenced 29 January 2024 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken on 14 & 15 September 2024 depending upon the weather conditions.
