7.1 The Lead Member considered a report by the Director of Children’s Service regarding the proposed expansion of Cradle Hill Community Primary School.
7.2 Mr and Mrs Newbold, the lead petitioners, spoke in support of the petition.
7.3 It was RESOLVED – to approve the expansion of Cradle Hill Community Primary School from 420 places to 630 places effective from 1 September 2017, conditional upon planning permission for the enlargement of the premises being granted under Part 3 of the Town and Country Planning Regulations 1992 by 31 December 2016.
Reason
7.4 In responding to a growing demand for primary school places in Seaford, the Local Authority believes the expansion of Cradle Hill Community Primary School from 420 places to 630 places is essential if it is to fulfil its statutory duty to provide sufficient school places.

4.2 It was RESOLVED – to defer consideration of this item until a Lead Member meeting on 24 June 2016 in order that further information in relation to the petition presented to the Chairman of the Council on 22 March 2016 could be considered

4.3 The Lead Member requested that further information in relation to the petition be provided prior to a decision on whether to approve the proposal to expand Cradle Hill Community Primary School being taken.
12.1 The Lead Member for Education and Inclusion, Special Educational Needs and Disability considered a report by the Director of Children’s Services which sought approval to publish statutory notices in respect of a proposal to enlarge Cradle Hill Community Primary School for the 2017/18 academic year.
12.2 Written comments were received from Councillor Carolyn Lambert, Local Member, expressing her concerns over traffic and parking congestions resulting from the proposed expansion.
12.3 RESOLVED to:
1) authorise the publication of statutory notices in respect of a proposal to enlarge Cradle Hill Community Primary School by one form of entry per year group (30 places per year group, 210 places overall) for the 2017/18 academic year; and
2) delegate authority to the Director of Children’s Services to amend the proposals prior to their publication if required.
Reason
12.4 The Council has a legal duty to ensure there are sufficient school places in Seaford to meet demand. It is believed that expansion of Cradle Hill Community Primary School is the best option due to the popularity of the school and the capacity of its site.
