Families find themselves in circumstances where leaving the home for a minimum of 1 week, circumstances like extensive repairs to the home that will deem it unsafe for habitation, domestic abuse, sudden fire or flooding, homelessness. These examples are often stressful and difficult times for families and the amendment to the policy will make the process a simple and stress free one. The current policy expects families already under enormous amounts of pressure to then sell their situation to an officer at ESCC in the hope they will sympathise, which in my experience they did not. Families deserve better from the county council and the services they provide to ease the pressure from day to day life with a children or adult with a disability.
