There is a requirement to refresh all East
Sussex County Council’s smartphone estate as well as
upgrading core elements of the infrastructure to support mobile
devices as the council continues to move services into the
Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 ecosystem.
Currently East Sussex provides a mobile device to between 3,000 and
3,700 staff. Presently most devices issued are iPhone SEs which
were originally deployed as part of the previous mobile refresh
project which ran from 23rd March 2018 to 31st April 2019. Normally
a smartphone would have an expected life of 3 years, however, due
to additional infrastructure work required it has been approved to
accelerate the refresh by the Device Lifecycle Group.
