9.1       Councillor Field declared a personal, non-prejudicial interest in item 5 (see minute 11) on the agenda. Councillor Field is a member of the Planning Committee.

10.1     The Lead Member for Education and Inclusion, Special Educational Needs and Disability considered a report by the Director of Children’s Services regarding the proposed age range changes at Hurst Green CE Primary School and Grovelands Community Primary School.

 

10.2     Comments were received from Councillor Keeley, local member for Grovelands Community Primary School, who is in support of the changes.

 

10.3     Comments were received from Councillor Barnes, local member for Hurst Green CE Primary School, who is in support of the changes.

 

10.4     RESOLVED to:-          (1) authorise the change of age range at Grovelands Community Primary School from 4 to 11 to 2 to 11 with effect from 1 September 2016; and

 

                                                (2) authorise the change of age range at Hurst Green CE Primary school from 4 to 11 to 2 to 11 with effect from 1 September 2016.

 

Reason

 

10.5     Lowering the age ranges at both schools will help to build on work already done by the school and nursery providers, ensuring a fully integrated Early Years Foundation Stage to help secure good outcomes for all children.

11.1     The Lead Member for Education and Inclusion, Special Educational Needs and Disability considered a report by the Director of Children’s Services regarding the proposed expansion of Meridian Community Primary School.

 

11.2     RESOLVED to:-          (1) authorise the publication of statutory notices in respect of the proposal to enlarge Meridian Community Primary School by one form of entry (30 places per year group, 210 places overall) for the 2018/19 academic year; and

 

                                                (2) delegate authority to the Director of Children’s Service to amend the proposals prior to their publication if required.            

 

Reasons

 

11.3                 The Local Authority has a legal duty to ensure there is sufficient school provision in Peacehaven to meet the increasing demand for places. It believes Meridian Community Primary School is the right solution to address the need for places.
